Set up account verification at sign-in

You might be prompted to set up account verification when you sign in to Portal. If you set up verification for your account, you can be prompted to enter a verification code when you sign in or reset your password.

Depending on your Portal instance, you might be able to set up account verification with:

To set up account verification at sign-in:

  1. Sign in to Portal. See Sign in.

    If you are prompted to enter a code from your authenticator app or phone, a verification method is already set up for your account. See Verify your account.

    If you are not prompted to enter a code or set up or select a verification method, you can check your profile settings to see if account verification is set up. See Set up account verification in your profile.

  2. If a Verify your account page prompts you to select a verification method, do one of the following:
  3. Note: To stop setting up account verification, click the Skip this step link at any time during this process. If there is no Skip this step link, you are required to set up account verification.

    Note: To return to the Sign In page, click the Return to Sign In link at any time during this process. See Sign in.

  4. If the Set up an Authenticator App page appears, do the following:

    1. Scan the QR code on the page with your authenticator app, or use the code on the page to add your Portal account in the authenticator app.

    2. On the Set up an Authenticator App page, enter the Portal code from your authenticator app.

    3. Click Complete Setup.

      If a You’ve set up two-factor account verification message appears, click Take me to Portal.

      If an Incorrect code message appears, enter a code again and then click Complete Setup.

  5. If the Set up two-factor account verification page appears, do the following:

    1. Enter a phone number for receiving verification codes.

    2. Select Send me a text message to receive a verification code in a text message, or select Call me to receive a code in an automated voice call.

    3. Click Submit.

      The Enter your code page appears.

    4. Check your phone for a text message or automated voice call with an account verification code. Enter the code in the Enter your code box.

    5. To enter a code periodically (e.g., every 30 days) when you sign in to Portal from this web browser instead of every time you sign in, select Trust this device.

    6. Click Verify.

      If a You’ve set up two-factor account verification message appears, click Take me to Portal.

      If a message states that the code you entered is incorrect, enter the code again, and click Submit. You can also click Resend my code to receive a new account verification code, or click change my phone number to enter a new phone number for receiving codes.
